Largemouth Bass

Largemouth Bass

General Info: Largemouth Bass are the most iconic fish in America. If you were to ask a non-angler to go fishing with you, they would likely picture sitting in a small boat, fishing for largemouth bass. Many of us grew up watching legends like Bill Dance and Roland Martin fishing for largemouth bass on television.

Fly fishing for largemouth bass is not as popular as using traditional gear, but it is fun, challenging and can be very productive at times. Bass are typically aggressive and will often come up to eat a topwater presentation.
Preferred Gear:
Rods: If you want a dedicated largemouth rod, a 7wt or 8wt is the rod of choice. Fast action, heavy duty, 9'0" or shorter.
Reels: Large arbor reels are preferred as well as a disc drag, but not necessary.
Lines: Specialty lines for bass fishing are preferred. Warmwater lines are going to be the ticket in most cases. A tropical line is likely more appropriate in waters over 70F.
Favorites: Scientific Anglers Titan, RIO Elite Warmwater Predator, RIO Elite Predator
