General Info: There are some anglers that are obsessed with brown trout. There is a good reason for that. Brown trout can reach epic sizes even in small streams. Tales of the twenty pound browns are usually more myth than reality, but they do exist in the US, and they can be caught on a fly. Although extremely far and few between, they are still the stuff of dreams and we chase them with big streamers and a box full of hope.
These are the flies that are built for chasing that brown trout of dreams. While huge browns can be caught eating the smallest flies, they are most often caught on big, meaty streamers. These are our top choices.
Preferred Gear:
Rods: If you are serious about chasing big browns, a 9'0" 6wt or 7wt fly rod is the rod of choice.
Reels: Large arbor reels are preferred as well as a disc drag.
Lines: Specialty lines for streamer fishing are preferred. Sink tip lines may be preferred, but that is dependent on many factors in the rivers, streams or lakes
