At the barebones of all fishing is the basic tenet, fish eat other fish. The 'Streamers' category of fishing flies capitalizes on this fact. Fish will not ignore readily available protein no matter what the form, be it fry, leeches, minnows etc. Fishing these flies often result in larger than average fish, and perhaps that one in a lifetime. Excellent flies for all game fish.
